WADA report on Sochi doping claims published next week

Berlin (dpa) - The World Anti-Doping Agency WADA is to publish its report on alleged manipulation of Russian doping samples at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics on July 18, a spokesman for chief investigator Richard McLaren said Tuesday.

McLaren was appointed by WADA in May to report on allegations made by Doctor Grigory Rodchenkov, the former director of the WADA-accredited Moscow laboratory, who claimed he had covered up positive doping samples from Russian athletes in Sochi with the aid of the national security services.

Russia has denied the allegations that 15 of its medalists in Sochi were doped.

The publication of the report is scheduled for 18 days before the start of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach does not expect an impact on the next Games but if Russia is accused of institutional corruption in the report, the IOC will have to react.
