Washington (dpa) - Officials in the north-central US state of Wisconsin said Wednesday they will provide some 21 million dollars in tax incentives to German candy company Haribo to build its first plant in the United States.

The state‘s economic development corporation will award Haribo tax credits through 2028 based on job creation, capital investment and purchases from other companies in Wisconsin.

Haribo said in March that it plans to build its factory at a site in Pleasant Praire about 70 kilometres north of Chicago.

"Wisconsin is open for business and prominent companies from across the world are paying attention," Governor Scott Walker said.

"Haribo‘s decision to locate right here in Wisconsin as its first manufacturing facility in North America is further evidence that our reforms are working and will help provide hundreds of family-supporting jobs in Wisconsin."

Haribo plans to spend 242 million dollars to build the facility, which it said would open in 2020.

Walker has sought to lure international businesses to the state, with Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn announcing a 10-billion-dollar investment in a new plant there last month.

Haribo is best known for its Gold-Bears candy. It produces an average of 100 million gummy bears daily at its 16 facilities in Europe and employs nearly 7,000 people worldwide.
