London (dpa) - Rebecca Soni of the United States bettered the 200 metres breaststroke world record in the Olympic semi-finals to 2 minutes 20.00 seconds.

Soni took 12 hundredth of a second off the previous mark of 2:20.12 Annamay Pierse of Canada recorded on July 30, 2009, in Rome. dpa bag hl
