Madrid (dpa) - The terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils in the north-eastern Spanish region of Catalonia have killed or injured people from across the world.

Fourteen people lost their lives, and 126 have been reported injured. People of 34 different nationalities were affected, according to the Civil Protection agency of Catalonia.


A 60-year-old man and his grand-nephew were killed in the van-ramming attack in Barcelona‘s Las Ramblas, according to the El Pais newspaper. The man‘s wife was seriously injured in the attack.

A Spanish woman was the only victim in the Cambrils attack, according to Spanish news agency Europa Press. Her husband and sisters were injured.

Other media reports said a three-year-old boy was killed and his aunt seriously injured, while the boy‘s mother and older sister managed to avoid the speeding van.


Two Italians died in Barcelona, the foreign ministry in Rome said. Both were on holiday: one, a 35-year-old man, was in the Catalonian capital with his wife and two young children, the other, 25, was in the city with his girlfriend.

Officials also said three Italian citizens were injured.


US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson confirmed "the death of one American citizen" in Barcelona.


Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement that one Canadian was killed and four others were injured in the Barcelona attack.


One Belgian citizen has died and two are currently in hospital, including one with serious injuries, said Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders on Twitter. The victim who died was a 44-year-old woman who was vacationing in Spain with her husband and two sons, according to Belga news agency.


Portuguese authorities said a 74-year-old woman from Lisbon has died, and a 20-year-old woman is unaccounted for.


Media reports say three Germans died in Barcelona, but there is no official confirmation. The government has acknowledged 13 Germans among those injured.


Twenty-eight French citizens were injured in the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils, French European and Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said in Barcelona. Eighteen of them had been hospitalized. Four adults and four children were in a serious condition.


"We are currently assisting a small number of British people affected and are working to find out if any more need our help," a Foreign Office spokesman said, without giving exact numbers or details about health conditions.


At least four Australians were hurt, and a 7-year-old boy, whose mother is among those hospitalized is reported missing, according to official sources.


A Greek woman was injured in Barcelona, the Greek Foreign Ministry said.


Three Algerians were injured in Barcelona. Their condition is stable and will leave the hospital soon, a spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelaziz Benali-Cherif, said Friday, according to the Algerian Press Agency.


A female Serbian national was slightly injured in the Barcelona attack, the Foreign Ministry said.


Several people from the region were injured, including at least two women from Costa Rica, two Argentinians and a Colombian, according to those countries‘ authorities.


Four Filipinos with Irish citizenship were injured in the attack, according to the Philippines‘ Department of Foreign Affairs.


According to Taiwan‘s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a mother and daughter, both Taiwanese nationals, were lightly injured. They were sent to a hospital for treatment and belonged to a Taiwanese group of 30 tourists and a tourguide.


Catalan authorities mentioned other nationalities among the dead or injured: Austria, Morocco, China, Romania, Venezuela, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Philippines, Netherlands, Taiwan, Honduras, Hungary, Ireland, Kuwait, Macedonia, Mauritania, Pakistan, Peru, Dominican Republic and Turkey.
