UPDATE 1ST LEAD Kenyan athletics team chief Rotich suspended by IAAF By John Bagratuni, dpa

Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - Kenyan athletics chief Michael Rotich has been provisionally suspended in connection with doping-related accusations, the ethics board of the sport‘s ruling body IAAF said on Friday.

The ethics board said in a statement Rotich was suspended from all positions in Kenyan and IAAF athletics "in the interests of the integrity of the sport" for 180 days, pending a probe into "serious matters which have come to the attention of the IAAF Ethics Board."

Rotich was sent home from Rio and arrested after being caught on hidden camera by undercover reporters as offering to inform athletes about upcoming doping tests for 9,000 pounds sterling (11,800 dollars) for a period of three months.

The IAAF said it is investigating "in relation to potential subversion of the anti-doping control process in Kenya."

More than 40 Kenyan athletes have failed doping tests since 2011, and Kenyan athletes have been heavily tested in the run-up to the Rio Games.

Also under investigation, by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), is Kenyan athletics coach John Anzrah, who was also sent home on Thursday after being caught using an athlete‘s accreditation during a doping control.

Anzrah said he had used the accreditation of 800m runner Ferguson Rotich to get breakfast at the athletes‘ dining hall when officials were sent out to bring in Rotich for a doping test.

Anzrah signed the doping control form, but then presented his passport to a doping control officer, revealing his true identity. International Olympic Committee spokesman Mark Adams denied media reports that Anzrah had taken the doping test in Rotich‘s place.

The athlete, who was properly tested right after the incident with Anzrah, competed Friday in the heats.

An IOC disciplinary commission has been set up and could "take action if necessary" against both Anzrah and Rotich, Adams said.
