Krasnaya Polyana, Russia (dpa) - Norway‘s Helene Olafsen and Jacqueline Hernandez of the United States both had to be stretchered off the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park course in Sunday‘s women‘s snowboard cross.

Olafsen, 23, suffered a knee injury in a fall at the start of the first seeding run.

Hernandez, 21, crashed after a jump in the lower part of the course and appeared to be unconscious for a while after hitting her head hard on the ground.

She was then able to sit up and communicate with medics before being stretchered off for further treatment.

On Saturday, Russian Maria Komissarova underwent surgery on a fractured spine after she fell in a ski cross training accident at the course.

The snowboard cross final is later Sunday.
