Istanbul (dpa) - Turkish police detained 26 foreign nationals in Istanbul over alleged Islamic State links, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported Wednesday.

The suspects had reportedly been to conflict zones in Syria and Iraq.

The raids were the latest in sweeps of the city, which have netted hundreds of suspects Islamic State activists in recent months. Those detained include dozens of foreigners, many of them from Syria.

Islamic State has been blamed for at least five terrorist attacks in Turkey over the past two years, including one that targeted the Ataturk airport on June 28 last year and one at a nightclub in Istanbul during celebrations on January 1.
