Topless activists disrupt Woody Allen concert in Hamburg

Hamburg (dpa) - Two topless female activists disrupted a concert performance by Woody Allen‘s jazz band in Hamburg on Tuesday evening.

The US film director was performing with the band in the city‘s new Elbphilharmonie concert hall when two protesters appeared on stage shouting slogans and with messages painted on their bodies, video footage posted online by German tabloid newspaper Bild showed.

The two activists were apparently from the women‘s rights organization "Femen," and were attempting to read a letter from Allen‘s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow, the newspaper said.

Farrow has accused the director, famous for films such as "Annie Hall" and "Match Point," of sexually assaulting her in the 1990s.

After the show, Femen activists also handed out flyers to concertgoers saying that a lack of legal decision in the matter was not proof of Allen‘s innocence, local newspaper Shz said.

The concert continued but Allen issued a short statement at the end, describing the women involved in the protest as "stupid," Shz reported.

In February 2014, Farrow wrote a public letter about the alleged abuse by Allen, published via The New York Times, but the now 81-year-old director was never prosecuted.

He has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
