Tel Aviv (dpa) - Thousands of Israelis called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign over corruption allegations during a march in Tel Aviv on Saturday.

The demonstrations were taking place for a third weekend in a row. Some of the participants held up placards that read: "Corrupt people must go."

Netanyahu is facing two corruption investigations, dubbed Case 1,000 and 2,000.

In Case 1,000, he is alleged to have received lavish gifts from billionaires in exchange for benefits. Case 2,000 revolves around a recording of the prime minister allegedly negotiating favourable media coverage with the publisher of Yediot Aharonot in exchange for weakening the newspaper‘s main competitor, Israel Hayom.

Netanyahu has adamantly denied any wrongdoing, claiming there is a media-orchestrated "witch hunt" to overthrow his government.
