Stockholm (dpa) - Sweden‘s security service Sapo said Thursday it was investigating information about a potential terrorism threat targeting the capital, Stockholm. However, the national terror alert level was not affected.

"We are aware that a message has been distributed on social media with a threat about a terrorism attack," Sapo spokeswoman Sofia Hellqvist told dpa, but declined to offer details.

Sapo was investigating the information and cooperating with national police, she said.

The national police said they had been contacted by members of the public about the threat, adding that "threats of this nature are quite common."

Morgan Johansson, minister for justice and home affairs, told reporters he had been briefed but had no further comment.

He advised the public to "listen to information from the authorities" and to "report anything suspicious to the police."

The national terror alert level remained on the third-highest stage on its five-point scale.

The online edition of Stockholm tabloid Aftonbaldet said the threat targeted central Stockholm.

In April, five people were killed when a hijacked truck ploughed through a busy pedestrian area in central Stockholm. An Uzbek man, Rakhmat Akilov, is the chief suspect. He is in pre-trial detention.
