Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - Poland‘s Kamil Stoch took a first step towards back-to-back Olympic golds in large hill ski-jumping when he led the way in the first round on Saturday.

The two-time reigning Four Hills champion Stoch soared 135 metres for 143.8 points at the Alpensia Nordic Centre, after having to settle for fourth on the normal hill.

Austria‘s Michael Hayboeck had the longest jump of the round with 140m and ranked second with 140.4 points. Normal hill champion Andreas Wellinger was close behind on 138.8 from 135.5m.

Stoch is bidding to become the second man to get successive large hill golds, the only one so far being Finland‘s Matti Nykanen with victory 1984 and 1988.
