Zurich (dpa) - Snowboard halfpipe Olympic champion Iouri Podlatchikov said Tuesday he wants to compete at the 2020 Tokyo Games as a skater.

The Russian-Swiss Podlatchikov - who goes by the nickname iPod - told the Neue Zuericher Zeitung that he is not necessarily thinking about a medal.

"I am a loud mouth, you know that just like me. But it would be unrealistic to claim that I could compete for a medal in Tokyo. And that‘s not what it‘s about for me," Podlatchikov said.

The Sochi 2014 gold medallist is more concentrated on repeating his title in the halfpipe in 2018 in South Korea.

"I don‘t see 2020 as a highlight of my career, but rather the last goal to make it possible that I don‘t have to worry about saying goodbye following the main goal 2018," Podlatchikov said.

"I wouldn‘t have a chance to win in 2020, but I believe the qualificaton would be possible. Maybe even making the finals, though everything would have to work out for that."

The International Olympic Committee last week added skateboarding to the schedule for the 2020 Olympics - along with baseball, softball, karate, surfing and climbing.

Podlatchikov started with skateboarding before becoming one of the best snowboarders in the world.
