London (dpa) - British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced a raft of measures meant as a "full and robust" response to the use of a Russia-developed nerve agent to poison a former spy in Britain, and to Moscow‘s refusal to account for the presence of the toxin.

These are the main measures she promised in the parliament:

- The expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats, deemed to be "undeclared intelligence officers," who have been given one week to leave.

- New government powers, extending the scope of legislation designed to protect Britain from terrorism, to "tackle all forms of hostile state activity" and prevent such actors from entering Britain.

- Suspension of all planned high-level contacts between the two governments, including the withdrawal of an invitation for Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to visit Britain.

- A decision not to send any senior officials or members of the royal family to the football World Cup finals in Russia later this year.

- The freezing of Russian state assets wherever the government finds "evidence that they may be used to threaten the life or property of UK nationals or residents."

- Tougher police action against "serious criminals and corrupt elites."

- Stronger efforts to monitor and track those travelling to Britain who could be engaged in activities that threatens national security.

- Increased checks on private flights, customs and freight.

- Additional measures that "cannot be shared publicly for reasons of national security."
