Rome (dpa) - Authorities opened an international terrorism investigation after a man wielding a knife attacked and injured a police officer and two soldiers at a Milan train station on Thursday.

The attacker‘s Facebook profile and his contacts are being examined, Italian news agencies reported on Friday, citing authorities.

The initial assessment was that terrorism wasn‘t the motive, but media were reporting that authorities were checking whether the man had praised the Islamic State extremist group on Facebook.

The attacker, who was born in Italy to a Tunisian father, pulled a knife out and lunged at a police officer and two soldiers during a routine check at Milan‘s central train station Thursday night.

The attacker was subdued and arrested on the spot.

The police officer and soldiers were brought to a hospital with cuts.
