Berlin (dpa) - Berlin police carried out early morning raids Thursday on several buildings linked to suspected Islamic extremists, according to a local media report.

The suspects were thought to have connections to Anis Amri, the Tunisian who ploughed a truck into a Berlin Christmas market last year, according to the Berliner Zeitung.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that the raids had taken place, but gave no further details.

Amri went on the run after the deadly December 2016 attack and was later shot dead by police in Italy.
