Budapest (dpa) - A suspect in the November 2015 Paris terrorist attacks supposedly met neo-Nazis in Hungary a few weeks afterwards, the internet portal zoom.hu reported on Monday, quoting government sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.

According to the story, Salah Abdeslam met members of the militant right-wing extremist Hungarian National Front (MNA) in January 2016.

The portal said that the suspect was monitored by Hungarian state security during his stay in the country. In agreement with the French and Belgian secret services, the Hungarians did not arrest him in order to determine the people he would meet.

Abdeslam, the last survivor of the Paris attackers, was arrested in Brussels in March 2016.

The MNA, reportedly also with links to the Russian state security service GRU, has used videos from Islamic State for its own propaganda.

In October 2016, Hungarian police searched the home of MNA leader Istvan Gyorkos in Gyor, in the west of the country. Gyorkos shot at police with an assault rifle during the raid, but was arrested.

An Austrian tourist spotted Abdeslam in a cafe in Sopron, a town near the Hungarian-Austrian border. She reported the sighting to Austrian police, and the Vienna newspaper Kronen Zeitung reported on it then.

The three groups of attackers struck at six locations in Paris on November 13, 2015, killing 130 and wounding more than 400 others. The IS claimed responsibility for the attacks, the worst in French history.
