Moscow (dpa) - Olympic high jump champion Anna Chicherova of Russia is among 31 athletes who tested positive for forbidden substances in retests of samples from the 2008 Games in Beijing, the Tass news agency said on Tuesday, quoting her coach.

"Three days ago, Anna received a notice that her doping sample from the Beijing Olympic tested positive after a recheck and she called me," coach Yevgeny Zagorulko told the state agency.

"So far, this is at the development stage and this has not yet been finally confirmed. But all are aware of this and are dealing with the issue."

Chicherova won bronze at the Beijing Olympics eight years ago and then took gold 2012 in London.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) said last week it retested 454 samples from 2008, with 31 athletes from 12 countries and six sports testing positive under the latest scientific analysis methods. No names were given because the b-samples were yet to be analysed.

Tass said that 14 of the 31 athletes were Russians, citing a source from the nation‘s Olympic Committee, and that most of them from the sport of athletics.
