Paris (dpa) - The office of Brigitte Macron, wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, has filed a complaint with prosecutors over fake emails purportedly seeking favours, RTL radio reported Friday.

The emails, sent to luxury hotels and restaurants from an address similar to that of the presidency, requested special treatment for Brigitte Macron or relatives, the station said.

RTL quoted an unnamed person close to Brigitte Macron as saying that the emails were an attempt to damage her reputation.

A judicial source in Paris confirmed to dpa that a complaint had been received from Brigitte Macron‘s office. A fraud investigation had been opened, the source added.
