PROFILE Richard McLaren, lawyer behind key WADA report on Russian doping

Berlin (dpa) - Richard McLaren likes to travel across the globe, so the law professor must have been a happy man in recent months.

For the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the Canadian has become the man for tricky cases.

First he was a member of the WADA commission, which has helped uncover widespread doping in Russian athletics. Then he was charged with the task of investigating allegations of manipulated doping samples of Russian competitors at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

WADA know what they have in McLaren. The highly respected professor is not one to seek the limelight. He is valued for his well-structured, meticulous work - work which has always led to significant results.

In 2007, he participated in the Mitchell Report, which confirmed that American professional baseball had a nationwide doping problem.

Born in 1945, McLaren has an excellent reputation. For years he has worked for the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). He has worked for numerous ad hoc committees of CAS during summer and winter games.

His judgment was often crucial - in the case of Russia now perhaps more than ever.
