Sydney (dpa) - Australian gold medallist Michael Diamond has lost his gun licence after being charged with drunk driving and firearms offences, following an alleged domestic dispute, police and local media said Monday.

The 44-year-old Olympic shooter allegedly got into an argument with his brother on Saturday night at a home outside Sydney.

New South Wales police said they detained the suspect after he refused to undergo a breath test. He was later found to have a blood-alcohol content three times the legal limit. Officers also said they found a shotgun and 150 rounds of ammunition in his car.

Diamond was charged with drink driving, failing to keep a firearm safe, and handling or use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, according to police.

Both his driving and firearms licences were suspended, the police said, and he was placed under a provisional domestic violence order.

Diamond has participated in the last six Olympics. He won the gold medal for clay target shooting at the 1996 Atlanta games and another gold in 2000 Sydney games.

He was hoping to participate in the Rio games in July as well, which would be his seventh Olympics participation. That is now in doubt, local media reported.
