London (dpa) - Pakistani children‘s education activist and Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai has decided to take up her studies at Britain‘s Oxford University.

"So excited to go to Oxford!!" she tweeted on Thursday, announcing that she had been accepted.

The university confirmed Yousafzai‘s plans to dpa. She will study philosophy, politics and economics.

Yousafzai gained fame for her lobbying for education for girls, which the radical Taliban movement made impossible in some parts of Pakistan. She then rocketed to international fame in 2012 when she was shot in the head by a Taliban militant opposed to her goals.

Then 15, she was taken to Britain for treatment. After her recovery, she returned to campaigning and then shared the Nobel prize in 2014 with Kailash Satyarthi, an Indian campaigner for children‘s rights.

In 2017, she became the UN‘s youngest-ever United Nations Messenger of Peace. She lives in Britain with her family.
