Washington (dpa) - US broadcaster CBS News and British broadcaster BBC News on Thursday announced plans to collaborate on news gathering around the world.

The arrangement allows both organizations to share video, editorial content and additional news gathering resources in New York, London, Washington and elsewhere around the world.

CBS said in a news release that the relationship will significantly enhance the global reporting capabilities of both organizations.

"CBS News is completely committed to original reporting around the world - a commitment clearly shared by the BBC," the news release said.

The relationship between CBS News and the worldwide British broadcaster will also allow for efficient planning of news gathering resources to increase the content of each operation‘s coverage of world events.

The BBC reports from 125 cities in 70 countries and reaches an audience of 346 million people weekly.

"There‘s never been a more important time for smart, courageous coverage of what‘s happening in the world," BBC director of news and current affairs James Harding said in the news release.

Sharing of content between CBS News and BBC News will begin immediately. Additional news gathering components will be rolled out in the coming months.

The two networks collaborated decades ago in the early days of television and radio news when US reporter Edward R Murrow delivered many of his famous World War II dispatches from the BBC‘s London headquarters.
