Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - NBA star Paul George plans on reaching out to French gymnast Samir Ait Said as an "inspiration" to come back from a horrific injury, the US basketball player was quoted as saying Tuesday.

"At some point, I am going to go over and have a chat with him, sit down with him. Try to be an inspiration to him," George told the US basketball portal The Vertical. "I know what it is like going through it. Hopefully, any words I can give is useful for him."

George said he was watching on television on Saturday when Said broke his left leg as he landed awkwardly following two backward flips.

"I was disgusted by it happening," George said. "It brought me back to my days. It was difficult. I didn‘t want to watch it, but in order for me to go over and talk to him, I had to see what happened. It was tough, tough to watch."

George suffered his own gruesome broken leg two years ago during an exhibition game with the United States basketball team ahead of the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The Indiana Pacers star also reached out to Said on Twitter, posting: "I feel for you brother. You‘ll be in my prayers! You‘ll come back stronger from this trust me I know! #GodBlessSamir."
