Berlin (dpa) - Former German national trainer Juergen Klinsmann called Olympic trainer Horst Hrubesch‘s work with his young football team "totally outstanding" as Germany heads into a gold medal final against hosts Brazil on Saturday.

In remarks to the daily Bild newspaper, Klinsmann said he was not surprised at 65-year-old Hrubesch‘s success with the youngsters despite the big age difference.

"No (I‘m not surprised) because he has done totally outstanding work in his own unique style," said Klinsmann. What Hrubesch had accomplished was "absolutely admirable."

Klinsmann, currently coach of the US national team and the man who guided Germany to a third-place finish at the 2006 World Cup, belonged to the then-West German team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics that won the bronze medal, the last Olympic medal for the German men.

The 52-year-old said he is a huge fan of the Summer Olympics. "The Olympics shows football players that other athletes accomplish incredible performances and to do so have to invest a lot more work than we football players do," Klinsmann said.
