Rome (dpa) - The "state of emergency" on gas supplies declared in the wake of a deadly pipeline blast in Austria is over, the Italian government said Friday.

"The ministry declared the end of the state of emergency and the return to normality," the Ministry for Economic Development said in a statement.

Gas supplies were interrupted on Tuesday by an explosion at the Baumgarten distribution hub, near the Slovakian border. It supplies Russian and Norwegian gas to other several European nations, including Italy.

Regular flow has since resumed for more than 48 hours, the ministry said. During the short crisis period, Italy tapped into its gas reserves.

Twenty-one workers were injured by the blast, and one was killed.
