Iranian one-two in the top weightlifting competition

London (dpa) - Iran secured a rare one-two of the heavy men in the weightlifting as Behdad Salimikordasiabi and Sajjad Anoushiravani Hamlabad won gold and silver respectively at the London Games on Tuesday.

German Matthias Steiner who won the +105 kilogramme division in Beijing had to retire after his second attempt as he injured himself when the weights fell on him.

Salimikordasiabi lifted a total of 455kg, while his compatriot managed a combined 449.

The bronze medal went to Russian Ruslan Albegov, who lifted just a kilogramme less than the second placed Iranian. dpa adh mis
