IOC elects eight new members

Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday elected eight new members, bringing its total number to 98.

The IOC Session elected the new men and women in a secret ballot on the eve of the opening ceremony of the Rio de Janeiro Games. The IOC can have a maximum 115 members.

The new members are former race walker Sari Essayah of Finland; world governing bob and skeleton federation chief Ivo Ferriani of Italy; Luis Moreno of Colombia; Auvita Rapilla of Papua New Guinea; film producer Anant Singh of South Africa; Canadian Olympic Committee president Tricia Smith; Austrian Olympic Committee chief Karl Stoss and India‘s Nita Ambani.

Elections of two IOC vice presidents and seven executive board members were also on the agenda of the session on Thursday.
