Berlin (dpa) - Six-time Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt is missing the Jamaican trials for next month‘s Rio de Janeiro Games with a hamstring problem but should still be nominated for Brazil.

Bolt pulled out of the 100 metres Friday after winning his semi-final and then called all further appearances at the Kingston trials.

"After feeling discomfort in my hamstring after the first round last night and then again in the semi-final tonight I was examined by the Chief Doctor of the National Championships and diagnosed with a Grade 1 tear," Bolt said on Facebook early Saturday.

"I have submitted a medical exemption to be excused from the 100m final and the remainder of the National Championships. I will seek treatment immediately and hope to show fitness at the London Anniversary Games on July 22 to earn selection for the Olympic Games in Rio."

Jamaica only nominates athletes with top placing in the mandatory trials but medical exemptions such as the one Bolt is seeking are possible.

Bolt, who turns 30 during the August 5-21 Games, is the biggest name in world athletics with his six Olympic golds, 11 world titles and world records in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m.
