Ravensburg, Germany (dpa) - A Syrian refugee admitted to a German court on Monday that he had been part of a Copenhagen terrorist plot, but denied prosecutors‘ charges that he had planned to carry out an attack himself.

The 21-year-old, who came to Germany as a refugee in 2015, told the court in Ravensburg that he had acquired batteries, radio equipment and other devices and had planned to travel to Copenhagen to deliver them to a contact.

"My mission would have been concluded then and I would have travelled back," he told the court on the first day of his trial.

Prosecutors say the man sympathizes with the ideology of the Islamic State extremist group and that he had told his Copenhagen contact that he was willing to commit murder by suicide attack.

The 21-year-old is known to have bought train tickets from Germany to Denmark in November. He was unable to enter Denmark due to a lack of identification and was later arrested in Germany.
