Bonn, Germany (dpa) - German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel called on China to demonstrate its commitment to opening up its markets following a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Thursday.

Speaking on the margins of the Group of 20 foreign ministers‘ meeting, Gabriel said he told Wang "that China is also underpinned by strong signals for an equal treatment of foreign companies in China, for example in the area of electromobility."

It was Gabriel‘s first meeting with Wang since the German vice-chancellor took over last month as the foreign minister of Europe‘s biggest economy.

Gabriel is hosting the G20 foreign ministers‘ meeting in the old capital of Bonn.

The German foreign minister said Germany also wanted to work more closely with China in addressing climate protection after China dropped its original scepticism and backed efforts to address global warming.
