Leipzig, Germany (dpa) - German Paralympics gold medal hope Vanessa Low has appealed for help after her running blades were stolen at the Desert Challenge Games in Arizona.

"Hi friends, something really terrible happened today at the @IPCathletics #desertchallengegames in Arizona. My running legs got stolen. Please repost and share and help me find/replace them," 25-year-old Low posted on Facebook.

Low, who lost both legs in a train accident when she was 15, is a gold medal hope for Germany in sprint and long jump at the Paralympics this year in Rio de Janeiro.

The blades are made to measure and Low estimates their overall cost 35,000 euros (some 40,000 dollars). She is now hoping the blades are returned or she can receive swift financial help to replace them.

"Every day I don‘t have running legs I cannot train as I do not have any spares. It is the Paralympic year and I just got both qualifications for the 100m and the long jump. Thank you for all your help!" she posted.
