Hamburg (dpa) - A 19-year-old could serve up to 15 months in juvenile prison for allegedly assaulting police officers during riots in the northern German city of Hamburg that hosted the Group of 20 summit.

A juvenile court will decide in six months whether the sentence in the teen‘s case - the fourth one so far connected to the riots - could be suspended, according to a court spokesman on Tuesday.

The Hamburg district court found the young man, who had been in jail since July 8, guilty as charged of attempted grievous bodily harm, breaching the peace and assaulting law enforcement officers.

He was accused of targeting police officers for attack, along with 10 to 15 others in a group, on the night of July 8 in the Hamburg neighbourhood of Schanzenviertel. They allegedly threw bottles at police officers and encouraged others in the area to join them.

Tuesday‘s case was the first one connected to the G20 riots that dealt with a juvenile. The other three led to sentences between six months, and two years and seven months for a 21-year-old Dutch man.

German police said in early August that they were investigating at least 150 people on charges related to the riots that turned violent.
