Berlin (dpa) - Four-time Olympic silver medalist sprinter Frankie Fredericks was Wednesday named as chairman of the International Olympic Committee‘s evaluation commission into the bids for the 2024 Olympic Games.

"Olympic Agenda 2020, with regard to the organization of the Olympic Games, puts a special focus on sustainability and the athletes‘ experience," the IOC president Thomas Bach said in a statement.

"This is where Frank Fredericks, as a four-time Olympic silver medallist in sprint and former Chair of the IOC Athletes‘ Commission, has great expertise."

Fredericks, 48, claimed his Olympic medals in the 100-metre and 200-metre sprints in 1992 and 1996 while representing Namibia.

The candidate cities for the 2024 Games are Los Angeles, Rome, Budapest and Paris.

Also Wednesday, IOC members Alexander Zhukov was named chair of the coordination commission for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Ugur Erdener is to lead Youth Olympic Games tripartite working group.
