Fiat Chrysler sales outperform European auto industry

Rome (dpa) - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said Thursday its European sales outperformed the industry in January compared to the same month last year.

January sales were up 15.2 per cent year-on-year to some 83,800 vehicles, outperforming the industry average of 10.1 per cent, the Italian-American carmaker said.

Group market share increased to 7 per cent, from 6.6 per cent a year ago.

Sales were up across group brands, with Alfa Romeo up 31.4 per cent, Fiat gaining 17.3 per cent, and Lancia increasing 2.5 per cent.

Fiat Chrysler said its cars did well in Germany, where sales increased by 22.7 per cent compared to an industry average of 10.5 per cent growth. Other leading markets where Fiat outperformed the industry were Spain, France and Italy.
