Tehran (dpa) - Iran called on the European Union on Wednesday to prevent the United States from torpedoing the internationally recognized 2015 nuclear agreement with Tehran.

"Our highest priority should be to save the nuclear deal," Iranian nuclear organization spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi said on the second day of talks on Tehran‘s nuclear deal and the human rights situation in Iran.

The agreement serves as a template for the world for the resolution of international conflicts, the spokesman said, according to comments carried by Iranian state news agency IRNA.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly called into question the 2015 nuclear deal and described it as "one of the worst" transactions ever entered into by the US.

In contrast to the US position, the EU is pushing for continued implementation of the agreement, which aims to prevent Iran from constructing nuclear weapons in return for the lifting of sanctions.
