Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - Governing body World Sailing says six Russian sailors are confirmed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to compete in the Rio Games.

Stefania Elfutina, Maksim Oberemko, Liudmila Dmitrieva, Alisa Kirilyuk, Sergey Komissarov and Denis Gribanov were provisionally nominated by World Sailing in July. Their Rio places have been confirmed, in light of the Russian doping scandal, following review by a three-person panel appointed by the IOC and an expert from the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

World Sailing said it is waiting on a final decision on the eligibility of a seventh Russian athlete, Pavel Sozykin. On Wednesday the World Sailing board of directors deemed Sozykin should be nominated based upon new eligibility guidance provided by the IOC.
