Moscow (dpa) - Newly re-elected Russian President Vladimir Putin shrugged off speculation on Sunday about whether he would seek another term when he is next eligible, in 2030.

The constitution allows only two consecutive presidential terms, meaning that Putin would have to leave the presidency from 2024 to 2030.

"What you are saying is a little funny," Putin said in response to a reporter‘s question at a news conference. "You think I‘m going to be sitting here for a hundred years? No!"

The 65-year-old has been in power as president or prime minister for nearly two decades.
