EXTRA 'No justification' for Russia's expulsion of diplomats, US says

Washington (dpa) - There is "no justification" for Russia‘s decision to close the US consulate in St Petersburg and expel 60 US diplomats, US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert says.

"Russia is isolating itself following the brazen chemical attack," Nauert told reporters. "There is no justification for the Russian response."

Nauert also said Russia "should not be acting like a victim."

The real victims, she said, are former Russian agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter, who were attacked using a Russian-developed nerve agent identified as Novichok.

Nauert added that the use of Novichok breaks chemical weapons conventions.
