EXTRA Italy's Di Maio rejects 'extremist' label for his Five Star Movement

Rome (dpa) - Italy‘s Five Star Movement (M5S) is not "extremist" and wants "stability" for the country, its leader and prime ministerial candidate Luigi Di Maio says.

The M5S won March 4 general elections with "a programme that was never extremist, I dare anyone to say that it was an extremist programme," Di Maio tells the foreign press in Rome.

Speaking amid a post-election stalemate, Di Maio insisted that the M5S was "inexorably" headed for government even if it does not have a parliamentary majority.

He urged other parties to come up with ideas that could be taken up by the M5S, but evaded questions on what kind of compromises could be made with political rivals.
