Istanbul (dpa) - After being released from jail in Istanbul by court order, German journalist Mesale Tolu is being held at a police station in the city‘s district of Fatih.

German Ambassador Martin Erdman said he is speaking to the head of the police station and trying to find out why she is being held.

The director of the prison where Tolu was released had ordered her deportation, according to Tolu‘s father, Ali Reza Tolu.

At the same time, the court had ruled that Tolu is not allowed to leave the country.

Along with 17 Turkish defendants, Tolu faces accusations of terrorist propaganda and membership in the extreme-left MLKP party, which Turkey designates a terrorist organization.
