Brussels (dpa) - Russia should "address the violations and shortcomings reported" by observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), a spokesperson for EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said.

"We expect Russia to address the violations and shortcomings reported by the [OSCE election observation mission], as they run against Russia‘s OSCE commitments and other international obligations," the spokesperson said.

The EU statement also noted that the bloc does not recognize the Crimea as part of Russia "and therefore does not recognise the holding of elections in the Crimean peninsula."
