Itsnabul (dpa) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused the United States of sacrificing its strategic relationship with Turkey and blamed the US‘ ambassador in Ankara for a crisis that has seen visa services to citizens in both countries suspended.

That the US is "sacrificing a strategic partner like Turkey for an impertinent ambassador is not acceptable," Erdogan said, continuing to blame ambassador John Bass for the ongoing crisis, even as the State Department has fully backed the envoy.

"We are not dependent on you," Erdogan said about the US, addressing governors in Ankara, adding that Turkey will no longer buy Sig Sauer weapons from the US. Legislators in Washington blocked sales of guns to the presidential guard after a brawl in the US capital this year.

Erdogan said the arrest of a US consulate employee was done as per the law and regulations, adding that Turkey is "not a tribal state."
