EXTRA CAS: IOC can't ban Russian swimmer Efimova from Rio over past doping

Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rules that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) cannot ban Russian swimmer Yulia Efimova from the Rio Olympics over past doping offences.

CAS referenced its previous ruling over Russian rowers Anastasia Karabelshikova and Ivan Podshivalov in which it said the IOC banning athletes with previous doping sanctions was "unenforceable as it does not respect the athletes‘ right of natural justice."

Like in the Karabelshikova and Podshivalov cases, Efimova, reigning 100-metre world champion in breaststroke, has not automatically been deemed eligible for the Olympics.
