EU poll: Slim majority of Britons now against Brexit

Brussels (dpa) - If Britain were to hold another referendum today on the country‘s membership in the European Union, the eurosceptics might not repeat their success, according to a study released on Wednesday.

Around every second person in Britain - 51 per cent - would now vote to stay in the bloc, the poll commissioned by the European Parliament found.

Thirty-four per cent of people surveyed said they would still choose Brexit, while 11 per cent were undecided.

Britain voted to leave the EU by a majority of 52 per cent in a 2016 referendum.

The data comes as EU leaders were preparing to meet for what was billed as a make-or-break summit in Brussels. However, the talks between London and the EU appear to have again stalled over the thorny issue of the Irish border.

Time is running short, with a deal needed to be ratified on both sides before Britain leaves the EU on March 29.
