Rome (dpa) - A 22-year-old man from Eritrea has died from "severe malnutrition" a day after arriving in Italy with a migrant rescue boat.

The man was called Segen and spent 19 months as a prisoner in Libya, Oscar Camps, founder of the Proactiva Open Arms rescue charity, wrote on Twitter.

He was taken to the Sicilian port of Pozzallo on Monday along with about 90 other survivors, including 12 children and seven women, the Adnkronos news agency said.

"Yesterday we witnessed a tragic landing," Pozzallo Mayor Roberto Ammatuna told Adnkronos. "Everybody was skin and bones, it looked like they had come out of a concentration camp," he added.
