Employees of Portuguese airline TAP to strike at Easter

Lisbon (dpa) - Employees of Portugal‘s national airline TAP will stage a strike from March 21 to 23, trade union sources said Friday.

The employees are protesting wage cuts forming part of Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho‘s austerity policies.

Earlier this week, TAP announced that it made a profit of 16 million euros (21 million dollars) in 2012, up from 3.1 million euros the previous year.

TAP chairman Fernando Pinto said a strike would create instability as government is about to decide whether TAP will be privatized.

The government decided in December not to sell the carrier to a Brazilian-Colombian investor, who was the only bidder. dpa sit bve Author: Sinikka Tarvainen
