Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - The course for the downhill and super-g alpine skiing races at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang is ready for use two years in advance and will be tested for the first time next month.

"The slope is ready and snow conditions on hill are great; there is enough snow prepared to very high standards, Guenter Hujara, technical expert with governing body FIS, was quoted by the local organizing committee POCOG on Wednesday.

On February 6-7 the course is to hold a downhill and super-g race in the men‘s World Cup, the first of 28 planned test events overall before the Olympic Games begin February 9, 2018.

The alpine centre at Jeongseon is to host men‘s and women‘s races in downhill and super-g disciplines in addition to the alpine combined competition.

After previous delays to the construction of venues for the Games, the International Olympic Committee said late in 2015 that work was on schedule.

"We were able to overcome challenges through teamwork within POCOG and with our partners, and I appreciate the dedication of everyone," POCOG president Cho Yang Ho said.

"We will concentrate on successful World Cup competitions next month and preparations for the Games in 2018."
