Pyeongchang, South Korea (dpa) - Russia remains banned from the Pyeongchang Olympics and its athletes are not allowed to march under their own flag at Sunday‘s closing ceremony, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) rules.

The ruling from the decision-making IOC executive board - after a discussion by the IOC session which endorsed it unanimously - said that Russia can be reinstated once all remaining doping tests from the Games in South Korea have returned negative.

The executive board said the doping cases of two Russian athletes during the Games made it impossible to lift the sanctions - imposed in December over wide-ranging doping practices - for the ceremony.

This was despite the overall good behaviour of the Olympic Athlete from Russia delegation in South Korea and payment of a 15-million-dollar fine.
