Lima (dpa) - Paris was awarded the 2024 Olympics and Los Angeles the 2028 Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Wednesday, the first double allocation in almost one century.

The IOC members at the 131st IOC Session unanimously approved a so-called tripartite agreement between the cities and the IOC by a show of hands to settle the double awarding, instead of voting for a city in a secret ballot as in the past.

Paris and LA originally both bid for 2024 but after the withdrawal of Boston, Budapest, Hamburg and Rome the IOC decided to secure the two strong bidders as future hosts. LA agreed to go for the Games 2028, which would have normally been awarded in 2021.

Paris previously staged the 1900 and 1924 Games, LA hosted in 1932 and 1984.

The last double allocation came in 1921 when the IOC chose Paris for 1924 and Amsterdam for 1928.
