Rio de Janeiro (dpa) - American Katie Ledecky wins the women‘s 800-metre freestyle in Rio de Janeiro in world record time to match Debbie Meyer‘s feat of winning the 200m, 400m and 800m Olympic freestyles at the 1968 Games in Mexico City.

Ledecky claimed her fourth Rio gold by lowering her own 800m world record by 1.89 seconds to 8 minutes 04.79 seconds. It is the second world record she has bettered in Rio after the 400m freestyle.

Jazz Carlin of Britain took silver around 12 seconds behind while bronze went to Boglarka Kapas of Hungary.

The victory makes Ledecky only the second woman to win the 200m, 400m and 800m Olympic titles at the same Games. She also holds the world 1,500m title which is not an Olympic event.
